Our Roots and Vision
Founded in 2024 by two dedicated high school students in California, Play in English was born from a passion for empowering young learners. We understand the hurdles Korean students face—from limited access to engaging environments to the struggle of maintaining long-term momentum. Our mission is to transform English learning into an enjoyable, sustainable journey where students build confidence and curiosity without the pressure of a traditional classroom.
Mentorship Over Instruction
We believe that true learning happens through connection, not just curriculum. We’ve created a welcoming space where students connect with friendly mentors who feel like older siblings, guiding them step-by-step with patience and care. By replacing rigid instruction with encouraging mentorship, we inspire consistency and turn the challenge of mastering a new language into an exciting adventure.
Our Commitment to Social Impact
What makes us truly unique is our identity as a self-sustaining non-profit. We use the proceeds from our programs to support those in need, creating a virtuous cycle where personal growth and community service go hand in hand. At Play in English, we don’t just unlock your language potential—we work together to foster a brighter, more compassionate future for everyone.

Hello, I am Benjamin Jung, currently a 10th grade at Irvine High School in California. Together with my good friend Brian, I am the co-founder of ‘Play in English’. During my early elementary school years in Korea, I experienced passion and determination Koreans have for learning English. This inspired me to create an environment where English doesn’t feel intimidating or distant but instead feels approachable—like learning from an older brother or mentor. In addition to making English accessible, we are also committed to using the small profits we earn to support those in need. It is our way of giving back and ensuring that our work has a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Hi, I’m Brian Kim, a 10th grader at Orange County School of the Arts and co-founder of Play in English with my good friend Benjamin. My passion for teaching began by helping friends with their studies, and it deepened during a mission trip to Peru, where I worked with local children and experienced the joy of meaningful connection through learning.
As a student-led, self-sustaining nonprofit, I’m especially grateful that through our work, we can give back and support those in need in our community. I’m here to make learning effective, engaging, and accessible every step of the way—let’s embark on this rewarding journey together!

At Play in English, we collected a portion of all our tutors’ tuition fees and donated it to the Orange County Rescue Mission to support the rehabilitation of local homeless individuals and their families.
